Talk Therapy
Talk therapy, also known as psychotherapy, is used to help people identify the issues that cause them emotional stress and anxiety. During talk therapy patients learn to identify and manage the factors that contribute to their anxiety.
What to expect at a talk therapy session?
The first session is generally an information-sharing time where the therapist asks questions related to your present concerns and your general background. Most likely, you’ll find yourself talking about your current symptoms and problems as well as your close relationships, your work, your interests, strengths and goals.
Each subsequent session is viewed as a problem-solving session. You describe your current situation and your feelings about it while your therapist listens and uses their expertise to assist you in trying to resolve that problem, using the information provided. Your therapist will ask follow-up questions related to the aspects being discussed.
How many sessions will I need?
Each individual is different with their own set of unique problems. It is difficult to say how many sessions you will need as this will depend entirely on YOU. The length of therapy depends on your individual needs. Some people have just a few sessions, while others see a therapist a few times a week for several years. The choice is yours.
