Waheeda Joosab Counselling
As a specialist wellness counsellor, my passion is to help people find the joy in their lives by focusing on emotional healing, spirituality and freedom. I work with women who are experiencing stress, anxiety, depression, and grief, and guide my clients through a process of self-discovery.
I focus on a more conversational, positive, client-focused dynamic where I listen, interpret and offer tools and techniques which aim to help you reflect upon, and ultimately overcome, your current challenges.
How to book at Waheeda Joosab Counselling
You can email me. It is quite permissible to address any queries you might have about my qualifications, experience, fees, therapy approach etc. when you make an appointment. Payments may be made in advance via EFT.
What to expect in the first session
The first session is where we can start to work together on what you have brought in and I can get a sense of what is going on for you. It is also a time where you discuss what you would like to get from coming to counselling and the time frame involved for this. You can get a sense of my style of working and whether you would like to continue to see me.

Duration of counselling
The duration of therapy depends on a number of factors that you and I would discuss at your first session. Factors which are taken into account are the nature of the problem and the goals of your therapy. Therapy can be short term, medium- or long-term. On average, a client begins to feel better and experience change after two months of regular sessions, however this is entirely dependent on you and the issue at hand.
Psychologist vs. Counsellor vs. Life coach – what’s the difference?
A psychologist (registered with HPCSA) has a Masters degree in Psychology. Their role is to assess, diagnose and treat individuals experiencing psychological distress and mental illness. They also perform psychotherapy and develop treatment plans. They can claim back from medical aid, which normally means their fees are higher.
A counsellor that is (registered with the ASCHP) has an Honours degree in Psychology. They focus on holistic healing by focusing on all areas of the person’s life (mind and body, relationships, financial etc.). They evaluate general well-being and are therefore often referred to as wellness specialists or wellness counsellors. They cannot claim back from medical aid, which normally means their fees are lower.
A life coach (no registration required) works on a shorter term and future-focused. They are orientated towards helping a client achieve specifically defined goals and maximise their own potential. They, too, cannot claim back from medical aid.
Cancellation policy
I request that you give me a 24-hour notice if you are unable to keep a scheduled appointment. You may contact me through various forms should you wish to reschedule. This includes email, text, phone, or WhatsApp. Late cancel or no shows will be charged for.
It is understandable that circumstances beyond your control may prevent you from arriving at the scheduled appointment. We can deal with that when the issue arises.
