A new year, to start all over
It’s been a little over a year since I’ve last blogged. I suppose I must have been busy last year, then. It’s what we do, us humans, isn’t it? We keep busy. If it isn’t work or school or the kids or cooking or socialising, it’s all of it… rolled together into the giant snowball of busy-ness we all know and love.
Back to school tomorrow [insert Woman Facepalming emoji here]. That means back to reality, and back to the grind. Back to homework and extra curriculars. Back to school meetings and cake sales…
But it also means BACK TO ROUTINE [insert Dancing Woman emoji here!] If there’s one thing I can count on, it’s the fimiliarity of our back to school routine. And boy, do I milk it!
Bedtime has always been early in this household… for my own sanity, that is. In case you’re also searching for your own sanity, I’ll give you a clue where to find it… It’s somewhere between putting the last child to bed and finally meeting your pillow. That’s where sanity is. It’s in the peace and quiet. In the calmness after a day filled with tiny voices and large attitudes. In the mundane tasks we do to try, try, try to be on top of things, especially tomorrow, the first morning back at school. Make sure bags are packed, shoes are shone, socks and underwear are new/decent. Write a surprise lunch note (lest we forget tomorrow!). Fill up the water bottles, keep lunch boxes ready to be packed. I must admit, I sometimes prepare and pack the lunches at night. Not tonight, though! Tomorrow is the first day of school and I have to (at least pretend to) be the best mumma I can be!
